Short Bio:

The Pennyworth family had a long, proud tradition of service. Alfred himself had been working for the British Royal Family before the Waynes decided to hire him instead, before Bruce was even born. After the death of the elder Waynes, Alfred took over caring for Bruce and continued to do so more or less indefinitely, though naturally the relationship changed over time. He provided support in various forms for the Batman, not the least of which being emotional, until the fire.

Since he refused to accept Wayne’s apparent death, he’s been searching desperately for leads about what really happened to the Bat. Following rumors all the way to Europe, he ran into Nightwing in place of Bruce, and not knowing how much longer it would be before the Batman returned, convinced him to come back to Gotham instead.

Serious, conscientious and with a tendency to attempt a detached demeanor, Alfred can border on sarcastic when faced with such adversities as the fact that the man he’s been charged to look after is less than totally logical at times. On the whole he sees himself as a man with a job and a responsibility to do it well, though every so often, as in the case of Nightwing, the greater duty of the Waynes bothers him as well.
